Camp History Camp Mission Missions Supporting Churches
Welcome to Mission Lake Christian Camp!
Our goal at MLCC it to help campers mature in their knowledge of Christ and grow in the fellowship of other Christians. We have camps for grades 1 through 12 during the summer months and a mid-winter retreat for grades 7 to 12 each January. For adults we offer retreats for men and women.
There are many ways to be involved at camp besides being a camper. Contact a Dean about being on staff or come to a workday and prepare the camp for use. We also seek interested individuals to serve on the camp board from supporting churches.
Camp Mission
Mission Lake Christian Camp (MLCC) exists to educate youth about Jesus Christ and equip them to be better Christians.
To reach our mission, we raise funds through donations and camper fees to cover operating expenses, select Deans to lead camps based on their biblical knowledge and desire to educate others, maintain facilities for camps and retreats and support other missions with funds donated by campers.
MLCC is a federally recognized not-for-profit under Section 501(c)(3). Please contact us if you need more information on our not-for-profit status.
Camp History
Mission Lake Christian Camp began in 1951 and has grown to its present facilities due to the dedication and hard work of many supporting churches in the region.
Our in-house history is sketchy covering the early years of the camp. We are looking for more information on the history and timeline of the camp and would welcome any information that can be sent to the contact email: mlcc.camp@gmail.com. We do have record of an organizational meeting in the last week of August in 1950, then the first lease with the City of Horton was executed on September 1, 1950, and the State of Kansas incorporation was completed on August 15, 1951.
This text from a newspaper clipping tells us about the organizational meeting in August, 1950:

Plan Christian Church Youth Camp At Horton
At a planning meeting held in Horton last week, 35 Christian churches of northeast Kansas and southeast Nebraska completed preliminary arrangements for establishing a youth camp, to be known as, the Mission Lake Christian Service camp. The development will include a dining room and kitchen, with space for office, canteen and first aid room; boys’ and girls’ dormitories with showers and toilets; a ball field, a vesper chapel and tables for outdoor study classes. Work is expected to begin in the very near future, so that the camp will be ready for use next summer. The camp will be located on the north edge of Mission Lake at Horton, with water frontage on two sides, the church group was given a 25-year lease on the 30 acres by the city of Horton, with an option to renew. When completed the development will be valued at $30,000. After the buildings are constructed, the grounds will be landscaped.
The camp will be used for religious and recreational training, for family conferences, laymen’s and guilds’ retreats, and will be available to other churches and organizations throughout northeast Kansas for a nominal rental fee. The camp will function on a non-profit basis with all profits going into further development,
A board of directors for the camp, elected this week, includes: E. W, Kiefer of Reserve, president; C. R. Brooks of Horton, treasurer; Adaline Balf of Nortonville, secretary; Louis Kirchner of Troy, chairman of the planning committee. Directors: Kenneth Hoschawer of Wymore, Neb., Clifford Hauxwell of Marysville; Orville Evans of Farmington; Dan Johnson of Highland; Orville Sutherland of Everest; Mark McKanna of Cummings.
